Kids Yoga Training

Kiddingaroundyoga.com is coming to the Glenwood Park Y Holistic Center to offer their unique teacher training method to introduce yoga to young generations.  Their teacher training is full of interesting and fun ways to share this ancient practice with children ages 2-17.  You will learn creative ways of instruction in meditation, breathing practices, relaxation, poses, games and activities, stress management for kids, how to run a kids yoga day camp, kids yoga birthday parties and so much more.  KAY has a unique approach to teaching children’s yoga and a series of original music created by their tight knit family of teachers and trainers.  It is a great program for anyone who works with kids on any level.

Training is set for Oct. 11-12 from 9 a.m.-8 p.m.

CPR & First Aid Training Calendar

The American Safety and Health Institute CPR/AED and first aid certification classes are available to individuals who have never been certified or whose certification has expired.  Classes offered throughout the year.

Lifeguard Certification Course

July 11th, 2014

The Glenwood Park Y will offer a lifeguard certification course beginning July 27.  The required prerequisite swim will be July 18.  Get more information about this course here.

Life Guard Crossover Course

YMCA LIFEGUARD CROSSOVER is a modified course that acknowledges current lifeguard certifications from other agencies and provides participants with the education to become a certified YMCA Lifeguard.

Classes will be held at The Downtown Y on Thursday, May 15: 4 to 9pm, Friday, May 16: 4 to 9pm and Saturday, May 17: 1 to 6pm.

There is elearning that must be completed before the class begins. You must email Jeanne Moss at mmoss@ymcaerie.org once you have registered for the course to receive the elearning.

Course fee must be paid before you will receive the elearning.

You also must bring copies of your current certification for Lifeguarding to the first class.
Members: $120  Non-Members:  $145

YMCA Lifeguard Certification Course

April 1st, 2014

The YMCA of Greater Erie will host a prerequisite swim and lifeguard certification course in May.  Employment begins at age 16 and a number of positions will be available throughout the Y and community pools.

YMCA Swim Instructor Training

April 1st, 2014

This is the introductory course given to YMCA instructors teaching Parent/Child, Preschool, and Youth or Adult classes.  This course will give new instructors the primary basics for teaching aquatic classes that are student centered, value oriented, safe and effective in teaching skills.  Course to be held May 12-16 from 4-9 p.m.; 100% attendance is required.  Course held at the Eastside Family Y, 2101 Nagle Road.  Registration deadline is May 3.

Cost:  Free to YMCA employees

$75.00 Member     $150.00 Non-Member

Prerequisites: Minimum age 16, Current certifications in CPR Pro, First Aid and Oxygen Administration, ability to demonstrate proficiency in Minnow level swimming skills.

 

Become Whistle Worthy

Lifeguards do more than just watch the pool… They can save lives!

This course will provide individuals with all the training and information that they will need to become a YMCA Lifeguard and Whistle Worthy!  Two opportunities for certification:

Downtown Y
31 West 10th Street
Saturdays, Feb. 1-22, 1-8 p.m. & Saturady, March 1, 1-8p.m.
Pre-requisite Swim required.
Cost: Members-$30 for Prerequisite Swim
$165 after Passing Swim
Non-Members-$35 for Prerequisite Swim
$185 after Passing Swim
