Healthy Lifestyle Principles
This is the prerequisite course for all other YMCA of the USA Health and Fitness certifications. It provides practical and theoretical information for instrucotrs of all YMCA health and fitness programs, including information on effective leadership, basic physical activity, program safety guidelines and healthy lifestyle principles. The course also covers YMCA mission, philosophy and national program training and certification system. Course held on Friday, April 12, 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the Glenwood Park Y.

Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise
This course is designed to train staff members in the basics of conducting all varities of group exercise classes. Course conten includes the practical application of cardio, respiratory and neuromuscular exercise science, leadership and teaching skills for group exercise selection and execution. This course is the required prerequisite for all other courses in the YMCA of the USA Health and Fitness Group Exercise track. Course held Saturday, April 13, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Glenwood Park Y.

Prerequisite Swim: April 6, @ 12pm
Cost: $30 members, $40 Non-members (non-refundable)

Prerequisites: Complete Physical Competency Requirements
o Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
o Swim 100 yards of front crawl
o Swim 50 yards of each front crawl with head up, breaststroke, breaststroke with head up, elementary backstroke kick with hands on the chest.
o Perform a feet-first surface-dive in 8-10 feet of water (or maximum depth of training facility). Then swim underwater for 15 feet.
o Starting in the shallow end of the water, sprint for a distance of approximately 60 feet then perform an arm-over-arm surface dive in 8-10 feet (or maximum depth of training facility).
o Pick up an object from the bottom of pool, surface and tread water for at lease one minute with legs only, replace the object back to the bottom of the pool where it was found.
o Swim the remaining length to the end of the pool and hoist yourself out of the water.
o Immediately begin compression on an adult manikin for one minute or 100 compressions, stand and listen to directions for instructor.
*Note* if you pass the prerequisite swim you will be able to register for the lifeguard course following the prerequisite swim. If you do not pass you will not be permitted to sign up for the lifeguard course.

Cost: $160 member, $185 Non-member
Cost will include: CPR, First Aid, Oxygen, and Lifeguard certifications along with books.

The Downtown Y will offer a Life-guard Cross Over and Renewal Prerequisite swim on Saturday, March 23 starting at 9 a.m. Cost for Prerequisite swim for Y members is $30
and $40 for non-members.
If the Pre-requisite Swim is passed then the participant may take part in the class on April 6 8:30am to 7pm and April 13 from 12Noon- 5PM!
Cost for the class is $120 for members and $145 for non-members!
