Adult Soccer – CoEd & Women’s

Whether you’ve never played and want to try it, played all your life and want to continue or haven’t played in quite some time… we’ve got a division for you!  The YMCA, in conjunction with Family First Sports Park & Gannon University, is able to offer a variety of soccer leagues – there’s a division for everyone!

Being an adult league, all participants must be at least 18 years of age to play.  All YMCA programs are recreationally-based, but we do encourage competitiveness as long as it’s within the limits of sportsmanship and respects the game itself.

The league at FFSP plays on Tuesday nights in the Field House (summer – play on outdoor grass fields) and the league at the Eastside YMCA plays on Sundays (summer – play at Gannon University’s Turf Stadium).

Master Swim Team

Come and swim coached workouts with other adult swimmers. This Adult Masters Swim Team will be coached by one of our aquatics staff who is qualified and experienced in swimming. Each workout will be new and challenging. Each class we will work on various skills including: Stroke Technique, Endurance, Speed, and Strength. You must be 18 or older to participate.

The team will compete in The Allegheny Mountain YMCA/YWCA Masters Swimming Association.  Meets are held once or twice a month beginning in September and ending in April with a Championship meet.

This is a US Masters Swimming program so there is a nominal $10 yearly membership fee for
Y members and $90 yearly membership fee for non-members.  As a member of the team you can attend any or all of the meets. There is a $7.00 meet fee for the meet(s) you wish to attend. You must compete in 3 regular season meets to be eligible to attend the Championship Meet.

The water fitness/aerobics program was developed for the YMCA by Mary E. Sanders, PhD. Connect with a great support network by participating in Weight Watchers® at the Y! Our Weight Watchers® group is an opportunity to “buddy-up” with others, gather resources about nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle. You can lean on your trained Meeting leader, who has been in your shoes.

Members who attend a minimum of 11 meetings earns a free month of YMCA membership (one awarded annually per household).

Cost is $156 for 12 weeks.  Pre-payment is required at time of registration and can be made in full or in three equal installments.  Program includes group meeting and 14 weeks of free Essential etools and 24/7 chat.  Program fees are established by Weight Watchers®.

Join at any time.  A minimum of 15 participants are required by Weight Watchers®.

Although cultivating healthy habits is a good idea for anyone, it is survivors are often at higher risk for developing other health problems as a result of their cancer treatment.  Healthy behaviors can help survivors regain or build strength, reduce the severity of side effects, reduce the risk of developing secondary cancers or other health issues, and enjoy life more.

The journey at the Regional Cancer Center incorporates a focus on mind-body-spirit well-being from the day  you walk through the doors.  They are committed to integrating wellness components into your care and treatment.  They want you to feel empowered and to regain a sense of control over your cancer.

Research shows that by integrating physical activity, proper nutrition and mind-body-spirit awareness, you can feel better and reduce the side effects of cancer treatment such as nausea, depression, anxiety, fatigue and weight gain.

In keeping with RCC’s mission of providing comprehensive care with a commitment to optimal quality of life for patients and families, RCC has partnered with the Glenwood Park Y to offer supportive, holistic classes in a nurturing and spacious environment.

The classes will be taught by expert fitness professionals and will be offered to cancer survivors and caregivers only, completely free of charge.

Wellness Series for Veterans

YOGA –Thursdays at 10 a.m. @ BLOOM Collaborative – 138 East 26th Street:fitness_yogaEach class emphasizes emotional healing at a relaxed pace in a safe and nurturing environment.  This class offers simple and effective tools to heal those suffering from PTSD. Yoga delivers inner peace, vibrant health and relaxation.

TAI CHI – Wednesdays at 6:30pm @ Downtown Y
Tai Chi, referred to by the Harvard Medical School as “medication in motion”,  helps with stress relief, reduces anxiety and depression; and has been proven to improve arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, sleeplessness, fibromyalgia , PTSD, and back and spinal problems, as well as increase strength, mobility, balance, and endurance.

WATER FITNESS -Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. @ Downtown Y
This low to high-impact aerobics class held in the shallow end of the pool will utilize the resistance and buoyancy of water to tone muscles while protecting joint.  Water Fitness has been proven to help as increase strength, mobility, balance, and endurance.

Women & Weights/Strength Training

We offer two options for weight training for women.

Women and Strength Training at the County Y teaches proper use of the free weights and machines to achieve balanced muscle development. Increases metabolism to burn fat. Free to Y members only.

Women and Weights at the Eastside Family Y is weight training class for women, led by women.  7 week class takes place in the free weight room and promises an individualized strength training plan and the confidence to continue on your own. Cost for Y members: $20/ $40-non-members

Youth Fitness/Cardio Course

Designed for ages 11-14 years. Under the supervision of trained instructors, the course concentrates on flexibility, cardiovascular and strength. Proper form, full range of motion and appropriate resistance and repetitions are emphasized. Get a healthy, early start to fitness and reinforce a lifetime pattern to exercise. At the Eastside Y the Youth Cardio Course is designed for ages 11-14years.  This is a members only class. This is an age appropriate training on cardio equipment . Every youth member must complete this course in order to use the cardio equipment in the Wellness Center.Classes meet 1 hour for 2 weeks. Youth Water Fitness

This fun and challenging water fitness workout for kids, ages 7-14 years of all fitness levels, will have crazy competitions and fun music making this wet workout a blast!  This program is an ongoing class combining strength and cardio in fun, game style exercises.  It will take place in the large pool so kids mus be able to pass the Deep Water test to participate.  Deep water testing will take place beginning 15 minutes before class time.

Youth Wellness Center Training

Member’s only class designed for youth ages 13-14 years old.  This course is an age appropriate training on cardio and strength equipment.  This is a 4-week session and each class is 90 minutes.  Youth must attend all 4 classes.  Contact the front desk for further details.

This class, for 8-12 year olds, will help youth find confidence and comfort with themselves through yoga poses, meditation, and breathing techniques.  This class is a fun way to embrace the style of yoga on the mat and taking the practice of mindfulness of the mat.  No registration required. Everybody and every body! Each Zumba® class is designed to bring people together to sweat it on. We take the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party.

Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective? Check. Super fun? Check and check.

A total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.
