Highmark QUAD Games 30th Anniversary

January 11th, 2012

The 30th Anniversary of the Highmark QUAD Games will kick off on April 15, 2012.  The year-round fitness program concept sets four goals for participants: a 100-yard swim in the spring (April 15 at Edinboro University,) a 12-mile bike ride in the summer (July 14, also at Edinboro University,) a five-mile run or walk in the fall (Sept. 8 Gibson Park in North East) and a winter challenge of a five-mile ski race or 2.5 mile snowshoe (January 6, 2013 at the Upper Golf Course of Peek ‘n Peak).

During the past 30 years, many area companies have encouraged their employees to participate in the fitness challenges leading to a completely unique way to connect them with healthier living.  While some approach the QUAD Games as a competition, many use the Games as fitness program. A glance at the long list of annual participants shows the incredible age range (7 years old to 84) as well as the many families that participate.

Highmark QUAD Kids sponsored by Wegmans
The Highmark QUAD Games are a great event for the whole family and even your young children can get in on the fun. QUAD Kids is a noncompetitive series of shorter distances for your child. QUAD Kids events are held the day of the regular QUAD events, but later in the day to allow parents to participate separately and still get to watch your QUAD Kid. The YMCA even provides free babysitting while you are participating. Distances for QUAD Kids include the choice of a 25-or 50-yard swim, half-mile or one-mile bike ride, run or ski and snowshoe.

All of our little participants will get a QUAD Kids T-shirt and a medal for completing their event. QUAD Kids is a great way to introduce your child to the fun of active fitness.

November 23rd, 2011

Highmark QUAD Games events coordinator Craig Latimer, accompanied by corporate sponsors and friends of the QUAD Games, announced plans for the 30th season of the Highmark QUAD Games. While the cross-country ski/snowshoe events remain on the calendar to close out the 29th year of this season’s QUAD Games (2011-12), dates and sponsors we’re announced as part of the celebration for the Games as they enter their third decade.

April 15, 2012 will kick off the 30th Anniversary Highmark QUAD Games with the 100-yard swim meet, which is traditionally held at McComb Fieldhouse on the campus of Edinboro University.  The second leg of the QUAD follows on July 14 with the 12-mile bike race, which starts on Perry Lane boarding the Edinboro University campus.  Highmark QUAD participants find their next challenge on September 8 with the five-mile run beginning from Gibson Park in North East.  The final portion of the Games offers a choice of a five- mile cross country ski race or 2.5 mile snowshoe event on the Upper Golf Course of Peek ‘n Peak on January 6, 2013
