Thankful. Caring. Accepted. Confident.

When we asked the individuals and families we serve, these are some of the words they used to describe their personal Y experience.  Single words that represent powerful stories of preparing, nourishing and strengthening children, teens and families in our community.

The United Way of Erie County compellingly spells out our community’s collective call to action – reduce the number of families struggling to meet their basic needs by one-third before 2025 through better access to education, income and health.

Your gift to the YMCA of Greater Erie’s 2013 We Build People campaign ensures that the YMCA of Greater Erie is part of the solution, delivering on a 153-commitment to nurturing the potential of every child and teen through safe places, positive role models and character development; improving the health of our community through innovative programs and family strengthening efforts and giving back to our neighbors through community outreach programs, volunteerism and financial support.

THANK YOU TO THE ERIE COMMUNITY FOR GIFTS EXCEEDING $179,000 TO THE 2013 WE BUILD PEOPLE ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP CAMPAIGN. Our work is not done however!  Numerous community events including the Highmark QUAD Games, Highmark Downtown Showdown 3-on-3 Outdoor Basketball Tournament, Annual Charity Golf Outing and more direct proceeds to our scholarship fund so we have the necessary resources we need to help the community.  In 2011, the YMCA awarded over $800,000 in financial assistance.  Click here for a list of 2013 donors as of April 15, 2013.

At the YMCA, no one will be denied membership or program participation because of inability to pay.

Financial assistance keeps the Y available for kids and families who need us most. We count on the generosity of our members and community to help people from all ages and from all walks of life be more healthy, confident and secure.

When you give your gift to the Y, your gift will have a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood.  Our We Build People scholarships will provide more than $800,000 in assistance to some 6,000 children, teens, families and adults through memberships and services that can have a lifelong impact on their spirit, mind and body.

The Y raises money for kids and families that need us most. Just one way we help is through membership and program scholarships. With your help, we're having a meaningful impact on people's lives.

Some ways we help:

Please consider giving to the YMCA of Greater Erie through volunteerism, advocacy and financial contribution. Your donation will be combined with others to:

  • Increase scholarship funds available for working families to afford quality early care, preschool and after school programs for kids.
  • Enhance family educational programs around nutrition, physical activity and healthy habits.
  • Increase scholarship funds available for membership and community outreach programs.

Through We Build People, the YMCA strengthens the whole community.

  • Nurturing and Guiding Children
