Erie, PA – Erie 7th graders are stepping out of their comfort zone and into their growth zone through the Y’s 7th Grade Membership Initiative. Joining Ys across Pennsylvania, the YMCA of Greater Erie’s Downtown branch now offers 7th graders a free membership to their new Teen Center.
“Seventh grade is a pivotal and transitional time for many kids. We want them to make good decisions and form healthy habits. Our goal is to harness their personality and provide them with the tools and experiences they want and need during this crucial time,” says Marcus Atkinson, Downtown Y Teen Center director. “Our programming explores their future, the values of volunteerism, healthy risk taking, teambuilding, conflict resolution, creative expression and lifestyle behaviors.”
This special free membership, available only to 7th graders, demonstrates the Y’s commitment to developing the whole person through a well-rounded healthy approach. 7th graders who actively participate will earn incentive points towards a free membership renewal upon graduation to 8th grade.
Non-7th-graders also can earn a free membership to the Downtown Y Teen Center through active participation in programs or may pay $5/week.
The Downtown Y Teen Center, 31 West 10th Street, is open Monday-Friday from 3-9 p.m. A free evening snack and healthy meal are served daily.
Interested 7th graders are welcome to stop by the Downtown Y with their current class schedule and parent or guardian to complete their membership application.
The 7th Grade Membership Initiative is generously underwritten by contributions made to the Y.
