With so many different diets out there, it’s difficult to figure out which is best:
Here’s what something to consider: clean eating
What is clean eating? Eating minimally processed foods. Pick out whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables. Lean proteins like lean cuts of meat and eggs. Healthy fats like nuts, avocado, and healthy oils such as coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store and stay away from boxed and canned foods. It’s not about counting calories, it’s about making the calories that you eat count. When choosing grains, choose whole grains over white grains which are overly processed. For example, when choosing whole wheat bread, choose a bread where the first ingredient is whole wheat flour, not enriched wheat flour. A great app to download is Fooducate. This app scans bar codes and gives that specific food a grade and it breaks down why it’s getting that grade. This app helps keep clean eating from getting overwhelming, but a simple rule to follow is the 80/20 rule. Stick to clean eating 80%, allowing for 20% to be for indulgences.
