Programs that benefit from your support:

Safe Spaces

  • Only about 1/2 of youth are exposed to the 40 Developmental Assets which help prepare them for life and avoid risky and unhealthy behaviors.  We provide community based programming that offers mentorship, academic enrichment, creative expression, positive values and conflict resolution.
  • 18% of kids in PA are responsible for taking care of themselves after school.  We provide scholarships for low-income kids wanting to attend after school enrichment programs.
  • Drowning is still the second leading cause of accidental death under age 14.  We provide community based learn to swim programs.
  • Kids with diabetes often feel excluded from their favorite activities including birthday parties, holidays and sleepovers.  We provide scholarships for youth to attend Diabetes Camp at YMCA Camp Fitch – an inclusive camp with support staff which helps them feel included with their peers.

  • 30% of third graders in Erie score unproficient in reading.  We provide learning programs which lay the foundation for reading readiness through daily reading and language based skills including vocabulary, letter and sound identification.
  • 40% of Erie’s kids are unprepared for Kindergarten.  We provide scholarships for low-income kids to attend high quality preschool at little or no cost and a community based program to help caregivers at home.
  • 4 out of 5 inmates in Erie are high school drop outs.  We provide community based tutoring, job readiness and post-secondary programs for teens.

Meals for Kids

  • Erie County has 10 food deserts – areas where access to healthy food is a concern for kids.  We provide a mobile meals site for kids – YMCA Food + Fun bus – serving meals right in neighborhoods.
  • 30% of Erie’s kids are overweight or obese.  We commit to limiting processed foods and increasing fresh fruit and vegetables in our meals through our program and community based meals sites.  We serve over 250,000 meals annually.

  • 25% of families spend less time together and 43% don’t eat family dinner.  We provide community based programs that strengthen family bonds.

Lake Erie Cyclefest Good Morning Sunshine Ride @ Presque Isle State Park
Aug 2 @ 6:00 am – 7:30 am
Lake Erie Cyclefest Good Morning Sunshine Ride @ Presque Isle State Park

Perhaps the prettiest place to find yourself in all of Erie is to find yourself on the Presque Isle peninsula during a summer sunrise. They are, in a word, spectacular. So spectacular that Lake Erie Cyclefest decided to add a sunrise tour of Presque Isle State Park. And who better to guide the tour than Good Morning Erie’s Traci Teudhope.

Lake Erie Cyclefest Slow Roll @ Perry Square
Aug 2 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Lake Erie Cyclefest Slow Roll @ Perry Square

Whether you are visiting Erie from a long distance or you’ve lived here all your life, you will love this free, lively, and creative slow-ride-tour of Lake Erie Cyclefest’s host city. The 10-mile ride will roll out of the northeast corner of Perry Square and visit many of Erie’s cultural and historical sites. All riders stay together and travel at about 6 miles per hour. The ride will conclude with an Erie Downtown Partnership block party featuring live music and a beer sampling from Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing.

Lake Erie Cyclefest Jelly Jar Ride @ Shade's Beach
Aug 3 @ 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
Lake Erie Cyclefest Jelly Jar Ride @ Shade's Beach

Riders have the choice of a 25 or 50-mile non-competitive ride. Each tour will take you through the county’s beautiful vineyards, fruit farm region and lakeshore. The Lake Erie Grape growing region is the largest grape growing region in the world, and in August smells simply grape-er-rific! The fruity aromas will remind riders of those long ago “jelly jar” days when people put up their own preserves. The ride includes optional stops at Mazza Vineyards and Kraza’s Kove (homemade ice cream in Findley Lake, NY) and will conclude with a picnic with wood-fired pizza from Brooklyn Pizza and a beer sampling from Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing. Proceeds from the ride benefit the Y’s Food + Fun bus, a free mobile meals site for kids in need. Route details coming soon.

Lake Erie Cyclefest Tour de West County @ Lake Erie Community Park
Aug 4 @ 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
Lake Erie Cyclefest Tour de West County @ Lake Erie Community Park

This is Erie County’s premier bicycle tour with a long-standing tradition of spectacular routes, safety support, water stops and after ride fun. This non-competitive event provides several scenic ride routes of varying distances. West Erie County is a treat to the senses with its rolling farm land, narrow lanes, and old growth forest. Choose a 12, 25, 50 or a 100 mile loop of Erie County. All routes are monitored by EmergyCare’s trained medical professionals and water/snack stations are strategically placed to make sure riders can rest and refuel. This year Tour de West County will begin at Lake Erie Community Park, the park has plenty of amenities to keep the whole family entertained, whether they are riding or not! Best of all is watching the Bald Eagles fish for breakfast. Tour de West County will end with a picnic and all riders will be given tokens to exchange for a beer sampling from Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing at The HUB.

Lake Erie Cyclefest Oscar the Grouch Gravel Grinder @ Lake Erie Speedway
Aug 5 @ 7:30 am – 12:00 pm
Lake Erie Cyclefest Oscar the Grouch Gravel Grinder @ Lake Erie Speedway

Brand new to Lake Erie Cyclefest is the gravel-grinder, so dirty and bumpy that it even makes Oscar grouchy. Not for the faint of heart or road bike this grinder begins at Lake Erie Speedway and follows an early Sunday morning 25 mile route around Eastern Erie County’s beautiful Eaton Reservoir, then tags New York State and returns to the speedway. The ride will end with a picnic and a beer sampling from Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing.

Lake Erie Cyclefest Alley Cat Ride @ Frontier Park
Aug 5 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Lake Erie Cyclefest Alley Cat Ride @ Frontier Park

This is Lake Erie Cyclefest’s only bike race. Alley Cat Bike races are fun adventure-bike rides for cyclists of all abilities. Lake Erie Cyclefest’s Alley Cat is a scavenger hunt around and through Erie’s downtown neighborhoods. Winners are often the most clever not necessarily the most speedy. This year’s race will begin at Frontier Park’s Educational Center. Riders will be given lanyards to wear around their necks. The lanyards have drawings of what riders need to find and a list of clues. The first three riders to return to Frontier Park will win fabulous prizes. The ride will end with a beer sampling from Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing and the Jazzy portion of Erie’s Jazz and Blues Fest.

Apple Festival @ YMCA Camp Sherwin
Sep 22 @ 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Like juicy fall apples, there’s a variety of activities to keep the kiddos smiling. First it’s a wagon ride around camp and a visit with favorite farm animals, bounce some energy away in the multiple bounce houses and do some pumpkin decorating, then it’s on to see the Posse and maybe ride a pony.

Not ready to go home? Kids will get a chuckle from Paprika the Clown, Magic Steve and Captain Magic. They can even get their hands dirty and sling an apple into our pond, check out Bricks for Kids or see what the expERIEnce Children Museum has! Taste sweet apple treats including home made dumplings and cider.

Parents – you’ll enjoy entertainment from local musicians and performance troops.  There’s a cake and wine walk too! NEW THIS YEAR . . . participate in the Homemade Fruit Pie Baking Contest.  Participants will need to bring 2 pies to participate.  Pie drop off will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. or Saturday, 9:30-10:30 a.m. at YMCA Camp Sherwin.  Tasting will be at 1:30 p.m. with announcement of winner and awards at 2 p.m. (only fruit pies please). Chances to win great raffle items in the Main Hall.
