THE BLOODMOBILE IS BACK

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

The Erie Community Blood Bank struggles constantly to get enough donors.  They need about 800 donors each week just to meet the need in our region.

Chances are 1 in 3 that a person will need blood in their lifetime.  That means you almost certainly love someone who has received blood.

Show your love and consider donating when The Bloodmobile visits:

The Eastside Y on Friday, May 31st from 8am – 12Noon
Please call 899-9622 to sign up for a donation time.

The County Y on Tuesday, June 18th from 10am-5pm
Please call 734-5700 to sign up for a donation time.

The Downtown Y on Monday, July 29th from 8am – 11am
Please call 452-3261 to sign up for a donation time.

Donation Process The donation process takes less than 45 minutes and is a four-step process.  You will first fill out a short health history form and be asked to read some educational materials about donating blood.  A mini physical- which includes having your blood pressure, pulse, iron and temperature checked by a staff member – will be the next step.  The staff member will also go over the donor history card with you at this time.  You then move on to the donation itself, this typically takes about 5-7 minutes.  When you have finished donating, you will be asked to stay for at least 10 minutes to have a drink and snack.

General Donation Requirements -Must be in general good health -Must weigh at least 100 pounds -No tattoos or piercings from a tattoo parlor within the last year -Must be 17 years of age or older, or 16 years of age with a signed Community Blood Bank parental permission form -Photo ID is required
