Every class is something different, and you never know what you’re going to get!  With 30 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of muscle toning, and 10 minutes of ab training, you’ll get a little bit of everything and a great workout every time!  Modifications will be provided.



“A suspension fitness trampoline!”  A bungee cord attached at a single anchor point rebounds your body at every angle.  The elastic nature of the trampolines gives exercises the ability to jump higher and leap further all while protecting your joints and boosting your cardio. We will spend time working on core control and mental concentration in order to build your stability and balance. (8-week session, meets once a week)

This class is available ONLY at the Eastside Y in the Obstacle Interval Fitness Center.



50 Mile Swim Club

Swim 50 miles in 5 months – keep track of your mileage in the log book – the stroke is not important- just the distance.  Track your mileage January 1-May 31 – get to 50 miles and get a special t-shirt and swim cap for your accomplishment.


Active Older Adult Fitness

Adaptive Swim Lessons

The Downtown Y is now offering Adaptive Swim Lessons for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, who are Deaf or Hearing Impaired and any other Special Need.

Our class instructors offer background experience in ASD and ASL.  Background noise will be limited.

Parents will be able to get in the water with their child if needed for the child’s comfort.

The class is designed to teach water safety in a calm comfortable environment.

The Downtown Y has a family changing room available on the same level as the pool making transition easier.

A Certified Black Belt level instructor guides you through the various levels of body control, technique and responsibility. For ages 13 and up.


Adult Co-Ed 6s Competitive Volleyball

An exciting and competitive league that will give your team a challenge. The league consists of eight or 12 weeks of play plus playoffs. All teams make playoffs and the championship team gets t-shirts. Fall, Winter & Spring Sessions. Cost: $270/team for fall session(12 weeks); $180/team for winter & spring sessions (8 weeks).


Adult Conditioning Swim Class

Whether you are preparing for an athletic event or simply want to work swimming into your workout routine, this 45-minute class can help you meet your goals.  Class  held by certified instructor with training experience.


Adult Pickleball Courts

Pickleball is a racket sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Fun for all ages.

GLENWOOD open Pickleball courts 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesdays & Thursdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Don’t worry about a partner. We partner as we play. We have paddles or you can bring your own.

EASTSIDE open Pickleball courts are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 11am- 2pm and Thursday from 11am-1pm.

Pickleball is pick-up, so anyone can show up and get playing time.

Adult Racquetball League

Dust off those racquets because we are bringing back one of our most popular leagues!  Our new racquetball league will consist of 8 Round-Robin Games and the player with the most  points at the end of 8 weeks will win the league.


Adult Soccer – CoEd (Futsal Indoor) & Women’s

Whether you’ve never played and want to try it, played all your life and want to continue or haven’t played in quite some time… we’ve got a division for you!  The YMCA, in conjunction with Gannon University, is able to offer a variety of soccer leagues – there’s a division for everyone!

Being an adult league, all participants must be at least 18 years of age to play.  All YMCA programs are recreationally-based, but we do encourage competitiveness as long as it’s within the limits of sportsmanship and respects the game itself.

The league is played on Sundays.  Indoors is played at the Eastside YMCA in the full gymnasium and outdoor is played at McConnell Family Stadium on the campus of Gannon University (turf field).

You know the challenges that we face in Erie.  People of all ages and backgrounds are struggling to reach their full potential.  More and more children face seemingly insurmountable learning gaps.  Families find it difficult to spend quality time together. People are not connected to their neighbors and face time happens through a phone. And, instead of seeing the income gap shrink, it seems all we do is watch it grow.

But, when challenges arise, the Y – and donors like you – steps in.  Everything the Y does, is in service of making us – as individuals and our community better.

Babysitting Clinic

Prepare your teen for babysitting. Learn tips for making babysitting fun and safe. Exposure to CPR and First Aid, games and other ideas to make babysitting experiences top notch. Bring a lunch. Ballroom Dance

Taught by Don Ray — learn the Fox Trot, Cha Cha and many more great dance moves! Get ready for your next special event or just a fun night out! Sessions are six-weeks long and meet on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00pm.




A strength and flexibility class inspired by classic dance genres utilizing the superfunctional bars. We will work on the mid-section of the body to tone and sculpt the core, inner and outer thighs, glutes, and quads while building ankle strength. TRX wil be used to strengthen the upper body and core. (8-week session, meets once a week)

Basic & Brief

10 weeks to a better you. Try this 40 minute, beginner-exerciser program two to three times weekly utilizing the Technogym equipment. Before and after internal/external measurements.

Before & After School (ages 5-12)

Combining play with academics, the Y’s School-Age Enrichment Program fills gaps in school by offering enrichment through arts, music, physical education, sports and nutrition.  Structured activities include  science, group projects, environmental awareness, arts and crafts, games, sports components, field trips and more. Beginner Hustle Dance Lessons

Hustle is a very exciting and energetic dance with the flexibility to look elegant and graceful, sultry and intimate, or funky and fun. It shares patterns and concepts with Salsa, including numerous wrap and turn patterns. More applicable and popular than ever, our curriculum focuses on a modern Hustle which is the contemporary evolution of the partner dance first popularized in the 1970’s.

The styling, movement, and musicality have evolved to reflect the latest music and trends. It also has options to travel and float on the dance floor like Waltz and Foxtrot. It’s danced to a syncopated rhythm creating a unique pulse perfect for pop, disco, jazz, and techno tunes. This powerful social dance can really make you stand out on the dance floor. Hustle is useful for regular dance parties such as weddings/receptions, live music night at the bar, charity events, etc.



Beginner Waltz Dance Lessons

Waltz is as relevant and useful today as it has been for over a century. It’s perfect for classics, as well as many of today’s pop, country, jazz, and even rock ballads. There are a surprising number of contemporary songs that use a Waltz rhythm. Along with Foxtrot, it is a common choice for wedding dances and is popular with social dancers all over the world. Waltz music is recognized by its ¾ rhythm, meaning musical phrases are counted in six beats rather than the usual eight.

An elegant and graceful slow dance that glides across the floor, it can be intimate and romantic or formal and grand. Learning to Waltz will improve your posture, poise, balance, frame, and control.



Belly Dancing Class

Each culture has its own style of dance. The way the music flows and the body moves depends on the culture it originates from. The dance can be social, religious, celebratory or supportive.  Program held throughout the year at the County Y and during the spring and summer at YMCA Camp Sherwin.

Birthday Parties

What better place to have a birthday party for kids than the YMCA? We’ve got birthday party fun down to an art and our facility is a giant playground for kids eager to run, climb and play (and eat cake, of course!)

Party times are up to 2.5 hours and can include a variety of combinations from reserved swimming and gym time to planned youth activities/games and, if at our Camp – 70 acres of outdoor recreation including hiking, fishing and canoeing. A party room for cake and gifts is also available. Costs begin at $90 for Y members and community member rates are available. A $25 non-refundable deposit is required. Blood Drives

Giving blood is beneficial for those who give and those who receive.  The person receiving the blood gets a new chance at life or maybe a booster toward better living.  Those who give can feel the power of helping those who need.  Other benefits for the donor include self-awareness of pulse, blood pressure, cholesterol, and hemoglobin level as well as bringing own high levels of iron.  When a person donates blood they are helping the research toward healthy living and a healthy community. Blood Drives are held in partnership with the Community Blood Bank.


Boot Camp

An intense military style workout. 60 minutes of grueling instruction on abdominal and calisthenics work. Plus stair runs, “dock” runs, track running with sprints and intervals of pull ups and dips. Some classes include suspension training. Class ends with strength training focused on the upper body.   Instructor led class with exercise variations for all fitness levels.


Bootcamp Gold

In this class you’ll learn age-appropriate circuit and strength training drills & imaginative ways to integrate interval training into your workout.  You will build stamina, and strength, blast fat, optimize cardio-respiratory fitness, and minimize stress of exercise on aging joints.  Note: Class appropriate for beginner bootcamp participants & older active adults.



Strength and core conditioning class which incorporates the half-ball/half-platform device. Class led by instructor and exercise modifications given for various fitness levels.



An opportunity to sit down and share a meal with friends and Y members. Bring a dish to share, and a guest for free. Brunches are offered every other month, sign up at front desk.


Cardio Dance

This class is a high energy cardiovascular infused group workout which combines top 40 music and many current styles of dance. Join in on the fun and energizing calorie burning workout! No experience necessary!


Cardio Kickboxing

An intense cardiovascular workout using punches and kicks to keep you moving, while also toning your entire body and sharpening your reactions and speed. Suitable for all levels of fitness.


Cardio Shred

A Jillian Michaels inspired style workout that mixes weight training with cardio bursts.  Work at your own pace; instructor-led modifications.



Both boys and girls can cheer and learn creative moves.  Basic cheerleading skills such as jumps, tumbling and cheering routines will be taught.  Designed for youth ages 7-14.  Cost: FREE Y-members; $56 non-members.



Safe play area. Plenty of smiles. Y staff will supervise your child while you work out. Services are provided for FREE while you exercise to ensure the active use of your Y membership. Open to children 6 weeks to 7 years.

Class provides several different workout varieties to accomplish a total body workout by use of the weight bar, dumbbells and body weight.  Combines strength and core conditioning.  Work at your own pace; instructor-led modifications.


Choga/Chair Yoga

A gentle form of yoga in a chair or standing using a chair for balance.  Advocates of this practice claim this type of yoga can reduce high blood pressure & anxiety, alleviate symptoms of chronic fatigue, arthritis, MS, carpal tunnel, clinical depression and chronic pain.

Circuit City

A high intensity interval class designed to push your body to the limit. You will use all of your muscle groups allowing for little rest in between. Not for beginners. The class is taught in the Obstacle Interval Fitness Center featuring Erie’s only open format QUEENEX by Precor system – exclusively at the Eastside Family Y.


Combo Classes

Can’t decide on a workout? Now you don’t have to! This class will break up the routine by giving you 30 minutes of “this and 30 minutes of “that”. Come to one or both, the choice is yours. All levels.


Community Collections

The Eastside Family collects goods monthly for local non-profits including the Second Harvest Food Bank, Wesleyville Food Pantry, military, City Mission, local schools and Mercy Center for Women.  We also collect items during the holidays for local families identified by neighboring nonprofits.

County Y Blue Dolphins Swim Team

Participants have an opportunity to swim in a competitive environment.  The swim team competes locally with the opportunity to advance to district, state and national events.  Everybody swims, everybody wins.  Winter session runs October to March, summer session runs June-July.

Deep Water Competency Test

Drowning is the second-leading cause of injury-related death for children ages 1-14 years old. In addition to drownings, five times as many children are victims of near-drowning incidents.

The YMCA of Greater Erie is committed to aquatic safety! All youth ages 17 and under will require a deep water competency test and an identification wristband before entering the deep end of the small pool or large pool. The test will only need to be completed once as a record will be kept on file but a wristband will need to be obtained from the Membership Desk and worn every time you visit.

Please be sure to stop by the Membership Desk prior to entering the pool area to get your wrist band.

Diabetes Prevention Program

Are you at risk for developing type 2 diabetes? This small-group program helps people with prediabetes eat healthier, increase their physical activity, and lose weight, which can delay or even prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic disease that causes blood sugar levels to rise higher than normal. Diabetes affects more than 29 million people. A condition called prediabetes occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. More than 86 million Americans have prediabetes and are at risk of developing diabetes. Diabetes has no cure, but prediabetes can be reversed.

Chances are you know at least one person with diabetes and probably more than one with prediabetes. To find out if you are at risk, take this quick test. Then share the test with friends and family.


Lifestyle coaches help participants reach the following goals:

  • lose a minimum of 7% of your starting weight
  • increase your physical activity to 150 minutes a week

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Must have a BMI of 24 or greater
  • Have NO previous diagnosis of Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
  • Either have a blood test result in the prediabetes range in the last year or score a 9 or higher on the CDC diabetes risk assessment
  • Previous diagnosis of gestational diabetes

The program is limited to 20 class participants and meets for one year.

Using the Creative Curriculum, we help to guide each child’s growth on an individual basis. The Early Head Start partnership program brings together the best of two worlds by combining the strengths of child care and Early Head Start programs.  The partnership provides comprehensive services and high-quality learning environments for income-eligible families with infants and toddlers.

Eastside Family YMCA Swim Team

Every kid has swimming abilities – there’s a little Michael Phelps in each of them.  Help yours find their swimming potential through the Eastside Family Y Swim Team!  Swimmers of all ages and abilities participate in our 150 + member Swim Team.  Led by caring coaches, we emphasize personal improvement through stroke technique and training, a strong work ethic and team work through competitive swimming. The swim team competes locally with the opportunity to advance to district, state and national events.   For more information, click here.


Essential/Beginner Yoga

This accessible class moves at a moderate pace introducing traditional yoga postures that focus on the structural alignment of the physical body.  This practice strengthens and releases the body organically, uniting body, mind and spirit for health and well-being.

If you are unable to pay the full cost of Y membership or programs, you may apply for partial assistance based on your financial situation. Income based membership rates are also available. Fit Club Mash Up

Circuits of body conditioning and resistance training using high-intensity aerobics while targeting strength building and muscular endurance. This class allows each individual to work at their respective fitness levels, challenging a variety of heart rate zones and muscle groups for a full cardio & strength workout. Not for beginners.


Free Meals for Kids Program

Kids fill-up on the good stuff while school is out because of the Y’s free Meals for Kids Program offered when school is out.  We serve nutritious meals for kids ages 2-18.  No application, income verification or registration is required.  After kids eat, Y staff offer activities including playground games, board games, arts/crafts and more.

Meals for Kids is a community outreach program of the YMCA of Greater Erie and is sponsored by the Walmart Foundation, Kern Family Foundation, MJ Surgala Trust, the City of Erie, Erie Housing Authority, VIBE 104.3 and Classy 100.

We’re taking the workout outdoors with Glenwood YMCA Personal trainer Doug Forne for a Functional Movement class at Frontier Park tennis courts!

You’ll step, squat and lunge your way to a toner you!  This donation only class will benefit the Y’s Food & Fun Bus – our mobile meals site for kids that provides free meals to kids in neighborhoods where food is a concern.  This class starts Thursday, May 3rd at 12:30pm and is Open to the Public



Functional Water Fitness

Class is designed to teach fitness, improving participant’s efficiency of movement and ability to perform day to day activities more easily.  Keeps participant’s mind and body healthy through a series of exercises and games mimicking daily activities.  All exercises have modifications to accommodate varying degrees of fitness, complications from illness or chronic conditions.


Gentle Yoga

Whether you are new to yoga or looking to revitalize your practice, this class provides you with the tools & inspiration you need to make yoga, and its benefits a regular part of your life.

John Gilmore Scholarship Fund for Diabetes Camp

John Gilmore was the Youth Sports Program Director for the Glenwood YMCA in Erie, PA.  John was an avid cyclist and weight lifter despite living with type 1 diabetes.  He loved children and felt passionate about healthful living.  John touched the lives of thousands of people through his kindness and generosity.  John died unexpectedly in his sleep on March 27, 2009 at the young age of 51.  After John’s passing a memorial fund was established in his name.

The cost for one child to attend YMCA Camp Fitch’s Dr. Barclays Camp for Diabetes is $555.00. The Glenwood Park Y provides scholarships for Glenwood Y youth members. These scholarships are being awarded through the John Gilmore Memorial Fund and will be awarded based on financial need and/or merit.  To learn more about this fund, contact Branch Executive Director Jim McEldowney.


Jr. NBA Basketball

The Jr. NBA is the official youth basketball participation program of the NBA. The Jr. NBA overview and philosophy aims to develop a lifelong passion for the game of basketball in boys and girls by teaching them the fundamentals of the sport while instilling core values including teamwork, respect and sportsmanship.

The Jr. NBA Philosophy is to share the game of basketball with youth across the world by teaching skills, values, and wellness in a positive and fun environment. The Jr. NBA’s holistic approach is intended to strengthen the culture of youth basketball, teach life lessons, and empower youth to live a full and healthy life. The Jr. NBA believes this philosophy leads to developing complete and well-rounded basketball players and individuals.

Junior Karate

A certified Black Belt level instructor guides your child through the various levels of body control, technique and responsibility. For ages 5-12. Cost: $25 Y-members; $75 non-members.


KAY Yoga/ Kidding Around Yoga

Come and join our Certified KAY (Kidding Around Yoga) instructors for these new and exciting Kids Yoga classes. KAY is designed to motivate children to be active, build confidence, develop mindfulness, and help them manage the spectrum of emotions children experience. Master Swim Team

Come and swim coached workouts with other adult swimmers. This Adult Masters Swim Team will be coached by one of our aquatics staff who is qualified and experienced in swimming. Each workout will be new and challenging. Each class we will work on various skills including: Stroke Technique, Endurance, Speed, and Strength. You must be 18 or older to participate.

The team will compete in The Allegheny Mountain YMCA/YWCA Masters Swimming Association.  Meets are held once or twice a month beginning in September and ending in April with a Championship meet.

This is a US Masters Swimming program so there is a nominal $10 yearly membership fee for
Y members and $90 yearly membership fee for non-members.  As a member of the team you can attend any or all of the meets. There is a $7.00 meet fee for the meet(s) you wish to attend. You must compete in 3 regular season meets to be eligible to attend the Championship Meet.

Free Meals for Kids

A busy after school schedule often makes it tough for kids to eat a healthy evening meal – or, individual family circumstances challenge parents in choosing between nutritious groceries and paying a bill. Whatever your situation – the Eastside Family Y provides FREE nutritious meals for kids through age 17 during the school year. We invite ALL to our table – kids enrolled in Y programs or those from the community – to sit down, family-style, and fill-up on the good stuff. We know with a balanced evening meal and a good night’s rest, kids will wake-up refreshed and ready to learn!

Parks & Recreation Program

Kids Bubbles GroupIn partnership with the City of Erie, the YMCA of Greater Erie offers free recreational programming at 8 City of Erie neighborhood parks throughout the summer. At the YMCA Kids Club Summer Parks & Recreation Program, kids spend their days taking part in a wide variety of summer play and learning activities while building a healthy spirit, mind and body. Each day, Y staff leads hands-on-activities such a group games, board games, group sports, group fitness and art and music. A hula hoop instructor will be visiting each park once a week to teach a “hoop” class. Gannon University’s Summer Fit stops by Bayview too!

Summer Camp Group Boys PoolA summer of fun is in store for youth at the Rodger Young Pool Open Swim & Recreation Program. Kids 6-18 enjoy bouncing from recreational swimming to lawn games, board games and group sports – then back to the pool to cool off!  Youth must be registered by a parent or legal guardian before participating in activities.  Proof of age is required for 6 year olds and may be requested for others.  Bathing suits required.  Free summer lunch is served daily. Brian Lee Crosby Memorial Learn to Swim Program

Swim Instructor RoundedYMCA swimming lessons give kids summer fun – with a splash of confidence! No matter what the child’s skill level, certified YMCA swimming instructors will help develop your child’s swimming ability and boost their spirit.  Swim lessons are free to all youth ages 6 months-18 years of age living in the City of Erie.  Parents or guardians are responsible for registration, attendance and transportation needs. Bathing suits required. Lifeguard on duty. Swim lessons meet 3 times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for 2 weeks for a total of 6, 40-minute classes per session at Erie High (Central), Strong Vincent and East School Swimming Pools.  Class sessions held between 10 a.m.-3:45 p.m.

At the conclusion of the session, a progress report will be given to each child with a recommended level for the next session.

A lifeguard skills class will be offered to teens ages 15 and up who have an interest in becoming a certified lifeguard.  This class will teach skills necessary to become a lifeguard in preparation for advancing to a Lifeguard Certification Class.  We will offer a Lifeguard Certification class to City of Erie residents who want to be a certified Lifeguard and gain employment.

Open Swim

Open swim is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for anyone interested in swimming lessons. Families of those registered are welcome to participate in open swim as well.  A parent or guardian must accompany children 5 and under in the water and remain within easing reaching distance of the child at all times.  Children 6-11 years must have a parent or guardian on deck.  All swimmers will be tested for swimming ability.  Bathing suits are required.  Lifeguard on duty. No open swim on Tuesday, July 4.

P.L.A.Y. Youth Basketball League

This 8 week + playoffs youth basketball league is for boys and girls grades K-4. This competitive league will be focused on developing basketball fundamentals while allowing the kids to experience healthy competition in a safe and fun environment. All games will be at the YMCA of Greater Erie Downtown Branch and will have an assigned referee and scorekeeper. The league fee is $45.00/student. All participants will receive a t-shirt. Next league begins in January 2018.

Play & Learn

You and your child’s caregivers are their first “teachers”.  At Play & Learn, Y staff will show how your child learns through play and active engagement through our everyday activities like running errands, emptying the dishwasher, sorting laundry and preparing dinner.  We’ll share oodles of learning ideas for at home and on the go.

Play & Learn is a FREE preschool like program that child and caregiver attend together and includes songs and 13 learning centers from books to puzzles, to listening and dress up – all that reinforce learning in preparation for Kindergarten.  Snack is also provided.

Play & Learn is free and open to children ages 6 weeks-5 years old and their caregiver -relative or friend. Pre-K Counts Program (ages 3-5 years)

The Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts program makes quality pre-kindergarten programs available to Pennsylvania residents at no cost to qualifying families.  It is funded through a grant from the State of Pennsylvania.  Full day program instructional time is 3 hours.  The Y offers a number of Pre-K Counts classrooms throughout the service area.  A Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts application must be filled out completely and submitted for consideration.  Call Jeannine Bello at 814-452-1432 ext. 245. Prenatal Yoga

This class offers a holistic approach for you and your baby.  It helps strengthen the uterus, the pelvic muscles, and ease many of the discomforts of pregnancy such as nausea, varicose veins, swelling and back pain.  Registration is required. Fee for members and non-members.

Y Preschool builds on a child’s natural desire to learn things and become more self-reliant. This class is an anything goes strength and toning class.  Depending on instructor and available equipment, we’ll use barbells, hand weights, resistance bands, stability ball and medicine ball.  Work at your own pace; instructor-led modifications.

Recovery Yoga

Recovery Yoga is a yogic support group for all those on a path to heal physically as well as mentally.  All those who suffer and choose to recover from anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, alcoholism, and addiction are welcome. First half of class is a group discussion and the second half is yoga.


Recreational and Educational Activities for Cyber & Home School Students (REACH)

Recreational and Educational Activities for Cyber & Home School Students (REACH) is an excellent way to meet your homeschool or cyber school Physical Education requirements. The 8-week session meets twice a week and will be divided into age groups to accommodate for physical development. For 4- weeks, the students will participate in gym classes that focus on physical fitness, skill development and sportsmanship. The other 4- weeks, students will participate in water safety
education and quality swim instruction that promotes swimming as a lifelong activity for
healthy living. Program designed for students 1-8 grade. Class meets for 45-minutes.


Reiki Treatment Clinic

Receive a 15-minute hands-on Reiki energy treatment from certified practitioners.  Reiki is a Japanese relaxation technique which reduces pain and stress and also promotes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing.  There are no side-effects; you just feel wonderful!  Walk-ins only; no advance appointments.  Reiki Treatment Clinics are typically held the third Friday of every month.

Introductory class exploring the differences between Reiki and other styles of energy healing.  Give and receive hands-on energy healing under the supervision of a Reiki Master/Teacher, no experience necessary.  Held the First Friday of every month.

Safety Around Water

It takes just 10 seconds and 1 ounce of water for a water-related accident to occur.  And, nearly 88% of all youth drownings happen under adult supervision.  The Y’s new program, Safety Around Water, is designed to teach kids and adults how to be safe in and around water.  The program does not focus on swimming technique, but focuses on important safety and survival skills to help reduce water-related accidents and drownings.  This program is for non-swimmers/beginners and is meant to complement the Y’s traditional swimming lesson program. Shallow Water Fitness

The water fitness/aerobics program was developed for the YMCA by Mary E. Sanders, PhD. The exercises are performed primarily in a vertical position in shallow water.  Water resistance creates an environment that improves cardiovascular conditioning; strength and endurance; and flexibility and balance.  Classes will be in one of three formats: Regular Aerobics will work through all of the shallow water moves; Dance & Fun will incorporate elements of different dance forms and games designed to challenge dynamic balance; Cardio Intervals will challenge members’ strength and endurance.  Work at your own pace; instructor-led modifications.

Class meets in shallow end of pool and uses floatation belts to maintain buoyancy and a vertical position in the water.  The belt also aids recovery from cardio sets.  You must be comfortable in deep water.

SilverSneakers Yoga

SilverSneakers Yoga will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.


Splash Circuit

This class is a shallow water class that blends cardio and muscular strength exercises into a series of progressions designed to challenge participants.  Classes begin with a warm-up then proceed into the circuit which is a series of alternating cardio and strength exercises.  A cool down and stretching complete class.  This format brings freshness and fun to participant’s aqua-training.  Work at your own pace; instructor-led modifications.


Splashball/Wet Ball

Splashball teaches basic water polo skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting while making new friends.  This class is led by epic Water Polo Head Coach Panos Tzelatis.  Ages 6 & Up.  Class meets in the small pool and life jackets are provided if needed.


Sporties for Shorties

Sporties for Shorties is a new spin on a classic program at the Eastside Family Y.  Formerly, Mighty Mites, Sporties for Shorties is a 10-week class which offers lessons in sports such as soccer, basketball, floor hockey and t-ball and includes a weekly swim lesson.  Cost is $25 for members and $75 for non-members.

Sports Yoga (Yoga for Athletes)

An athletically specific approach to yoga that brings focus to the alignment of the body, breath and core.  Utilizing proper breathing mechanics and awareness that engages the body, this class will emphasize improvement in power and range of motion to enhance performance all while integrating therapeutic results for the modern athlete.

Push your body to the next level with this 30-minute class using the Superfunctional fitness bar. The bar allows for pushing, pulling, swinging, hanging, standing, and seated movements. You will engage every muscle in your body using this suspension system. Many modifications offered. This class is available ONLY at the Eastside Y in the Obstacle Interval Fitness Center. Swimming Lessons

Drowning is the second leading cause of death for children 1 to 4 and the second leading cause of accidental death for children 5 to 14. Accidental drownings can be prevented by teaching youth, teens and adults to swim, so they can be safe around water and learn the skills they need to make swimming a lifelong pursuit for staying healthy.

Y swim instructors are nationally certified. Their training includes CPR, AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration.

Y Swim Lesson curriculum is based on a continuum that focuses on a skill-based progression that builds confidence and supports swimming skills. Lessons are broken into specific stages that are designed for that age group on a cognitive and social ability.

Program enhancements include: low swimmer/instructor ratio, longer class length for advanced progression, ease at time of registration, improved curriculum focusing on skills-based instruction with an emphasis on personal safety, tools and resources to support families at home. Class sessions are 8 weeks.

Tai Chi

The Eastside Family YMCA is excited to now offer TAI CHI as one of our Group Exercises.

TAI CHI is an ancient Chinese tradition that has evolved over centuries to become a means of alleviating stress and anxiety, a form of “meditation in motion”. It has been shown to improve balance control, fitness, and flexibility, and to reduce the risk of falls in older people.

Teen Center

Teens are offered a safe place to socialize, provided a wide selection of teen fitness and healthy living programs and supported by Y staff with homework help and self-esteem building activities. Teen Yoga/Movement Exploration

This blend of yoga-based flows, dance and other creative physical movements inspire confidence, joy and optimal health.  Release stress and emotion through breath and movement.  Discover and express your unique spirit in a nurturing and sacred space.  A brief description and brief meditation are also included.

Tiny Tumblers

Sing, dance tumble and giggle. Games and songs will teach your preschooler new ways to move.  All activities geared for parents and preschoolers to do together.  Open to children ages 18 months to 3 years.  


Traditional Pre-K (one year prior to Kindergarten)

A caring and friendly place for your child to learn and grow! Children develop a readiness for kindergarten through a variety of hands-on, child-centered activities. The class is led by a certified teacher using the Letter People and Creative Curriculum. Water Boot Camp

This class meets in the shallow end of the large pool navel to nipple depth. This is the ultimate workout for total body fitness. A combination of cardio and muscle strength and endurance exercises are used. Work at your own pace; instructor-led modifications.

Although cultivating healthy habits is a good idea for anyone, it is survivors are often at higher risk for developing other health problems as a result of their cancer treatment.  Healthy behaviors can help survivors regain or build strength, reduce the severity of side effects, reduce the risk of developing secondary cancers or other health issues, and enjoy life more.

The journey at the Regional Cancer Center incorporates a focus on mind-body-spirit well-being from the day  you walk through the doors.  They are committed to integrating wellness components into your care and treatment.  They want you to feel empowered and to regain a sense of control over your cancer.

Research shows that by integrating physical activity, proper nutrition and mind-body-spirit awareness, you can feel better and reduce the side effects of cancer treatment such as nausea, depression, anxiety, fatigue and weight gain.

In keeping with RCC’s mission of providing comprehensive care with a commitment to optimal quality of life for patients and families, RCC has partnered with the Glenwood Park Y to offer supportive, holistic classes in a nurturing and spacious environment.

The classes will be taught by expert fitness professionals and will be offered to cancer survivors and caregivers only, completely free of charge.

Yoga delivers inner peace, vibrant health and relaxation.

TAI CHI – Wednesdays at 6:30pm @ Downtown Y
Tai Chi, referred to by the Harvard Medical School as “medication in motion”,  helps with stress relief, reduces anxiety and depression; and has been proven to improve arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, sleeplessness, fibromyalgia , PTSD, and back and spinal problems, as well as increase strength, mobility, balance, and endurance.

WATER FITNESS -Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 9:00 a.m. @ Downtown Y
This low to high-impact aerobics class held in the shallow end of the pool will utilize the resistance and buoyancy of water to tone muscles while protecting joint.  Water Fitness has been proven to help as increase strength, mobility, balance, and endurance.

FREE Monthly Memberships are also available.  Veterans may apply for a membership at The Downtown YMCA on the 1st of every month.  They are on a first come first serve basis.

We offer two options for weight training for women.

Women and Strength Training at the County Y teaches proper use of the free weights and machines to achieve balanced muscle development. Increases metabolism to burn fat. Free to Y members only.

Women and Weights at the Eastside Family Y is weight training class for women, led by women.  7 week class takes place in the free weight room and promises an individualized strength training plan and the confidence to continue on your own. Cost for Y members: $20/ $40-non-members

YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistance (YASA)

This certification course is designed to prepare participants with the skills and knowledge needed to recognize aquatic risks and assist a lifeguard in the emergency response of an accident or injury. Minimum age: 14 years and must be able to swim 100 yards and tread water 2 minutes, legs only.

YMCA Kids Club

Kids involved in the YMCA Kids Club in the John Horan Garden Apartments or Erie Heights join YMCA staff daily for educational, recreational, cultural and relational activities.  Children learn positive behaviors and character values such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.  They explore their unique talents and abilities – helping them realize their potential.  That makes for confident kids today and contributing adults tomorrow.  Activities include organized sports, daily academic tutoring, educational activities, creative expression/art/music/theater, and a wide variety of recreational recreational choices including use of the downtown YMCA pool and gym. The YMCA partners with LECOM, Boy Scouts, Kiwanis Club, Girl Scouts, GECAC, and Penn State Cooperative Extension (4H Club), to provide additional programs for youth.

Program includes field trips, afternoon snack and evening dinner. Program is open daily after school for children 6-18.

The programs operate Monday through Friday, from 3-9 p.m., and from noon to 4 p.m., on Saturday. Summer hours are from June 13 through August 26th, Monday through Friday, 1-9 p.m. and Saturdays from noon – 6p.m.

YMCA Kids Clubs are funded by the Housing Authority of the City of Erie.



YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Course

Become a swim instructor at the YMCA. Commit to 3 hours per week and receive a free adult membership, or pay the difference of $27.07/month for a family membership.  This introductory course is given to YMCA instructors teaching Swim Starters, Preschool, School Age, Teen and Adult classes.  This course will give new instructors the primary basics for teaching aquatic classes that are student centered, value oriented and safe and effective in teaching skills.

Prerequisites:  Ability to complete 4 of the 6 strokes in good form (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and butterfly), tread water 2 minutes with 2 different kicks.

Course Cost: Free for YMCA of Greater Erie staff, members $100, non-members $120 Cost includes Basic Life Support, Oxygen, First Aid and Instructor certifications along with two online trainings required for the course.

Youth Dance

Our Ys offer Irish Step, ballet, jazz, hip-hop and modern depending upon location and student’s ability. This class teaches creative movement through dance techniques. Ages vary by location. Program offered during the summer at YMCA Camp Sherwin.

Youth Intro to Weight Lifting

Dumbells, barbells, racks, benches, & power towers.  Take the components from the weight machines on our fitness floor and learn the ins and outs of the free weight room.  Designed for ages 15+ years, this 1:1 orientation to the weightlifting equipment will help you recognize equipment in the free weights section, know how to properly use them, and gives them a few exercise suggestions that can be done with a piece of equipment.  Contact the Membership Desk to schedule an appointment.

Youth Taekwondo Fitness

Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial art.  This class will focus on the fun and athletic aspects of the Olympic sport, while still emphasizing Taekwondo ideals of discipline and perseverance.


Youth Wellness Center Orientation

Glenwood Park: Designed for ages 11-14 years, the orientation (formerly youth fitness) concentrates on the components for a safe and balanced workout: cardio, strength and flexibility.  You are also educated about our fitness “code of conduct” utilizing the Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.  After the orientation, youth are able to utilize the lower level fitness center. Youth Yoga Class

This class, for 8-12 year olds, will help youth find confidence and comfort with themselves through yoga poses, meditation, and breathing techniques.  This class is a fun way to embrace the style of yoga on the mat and taking the practice of mindfulness of the mat.  No registration required.
