Help us strengthen our community

When you give to the Y, you help move us all forward. As the nation’s leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y uses gifts from people like you to make a meaningful, enduring impact right in our own neighborhoods.  With your gift to our annual support campaign, We Build People, the Y:

  • Involves youth and teens in educational and recreational programs including youth sports, summer camp, diabetes camp, and afterschool activities.
  • Supports individuals and families with mission-driven programs such as Play & Learn, Activities through Cancer Treatment and Family Fun Nights.

The Y provides  access to Y membership and programs for children and families thanks to the generosity of our donors. In addition, many Y programs and services are provided at little or no cost from contributions and sponsorships of area businesses and individuals.

Help us create lasting personal and social change

We believe that no one should be turned away due to an inability to pay a fee. Frequently, our neighbors who could most benefit from the Y’s sense of community and Christian-based programs are the very ones who are unable to afford a membership. To provide a base of support for those in our community who need financial assistance, the Y has developed a membership scholarship program called We BuildPeople.

When you support the Y’s We Build People campaign, you are giving opportunity to those in our community that they simply can’t give themselves. Summer camps, youth sports, swimming lessons, after-school care, adult fitness programs and activities, and many other important services are made possible from 100 percent of the funds generated by We Build People. It is in this way that the Y reaches out with basic understandings of new, positive friendships and values of health and spiritual enrichment.

Our programs, classes and lessons can have a lifelong impact to these neighbors… but only if they are given the opportunity to take part and belong. To learn more, visit

We make it easy for everyone, regardless of economic status, to create a legacy and make an impact by including the YMCA of Greater Erie in your Will. A bequest (a gift designated through a Will) is the most common way to ensure that the work of the YMCA can be carried out for generations to come. It often makes it possible for a donor to make a much larger gift to the YMCA than could be made during the donor’s lifetime.  Learn more about making a gift to the YMCA of Greater Erie’s endowment.
