MacKenna Grubiss, Head Coach

Hello everyone! This is my third year working for the Eastside Y Swim Team and I am very happy with the growth of the swimmers over the years! I swam competitively for 14 years of my life and it is something that has always remained part of my life. When I was younger, I attended the Willoughby West End YMCA for swimming lessons and swim team. I swam and dove competitively during my 4 years at Willoughby South high school. I swam for the Wickliffe Water Devils summer swim team for 9 years and I coached that team for 4 years. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a minor in Spanish from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and I am continuing my education into graduate school for my second year in Speech-Language Pathology. My past coaching experiences have led me to build great leadership and communication skills necessary for a successful team. I enjoy working with people and helping people meet their individual goals. I am eager to share new ideas from a different background of experiences and to build a strong sense of community within the team. I am looking forward to a great season of swimming, with swimmers committed to learn and develop new skills. I am happy with our growth as a team and I look forward to working hard while having fun!

Alyssa Nutile, Assistant Coach

My name is Alyssa Nutile, and this will be my second year coaching at the Eastside YMCA. Previously, I began my swimming career in a summer league, and went on to swim throughout high school as a member of my local Coffman YMCA team. I went on to swim for the NCAA DII team at Hillsdale College for three years, and worked as a coaching assistant my final undergraduate year. During that time, I also lifeguarded and taught swim lessons to students of all ages. I’m excited to continue assisting the swimmers of the Eastside Y in setting, and then achieving, individual goals through hard work, skill building, and encouragement. We had a great season last year, and I’m very optimistic about this upcoming season too!

Anthony Squeglia, Assistant Coach

Hello, my name is Anthony Squeglia and will be joining the Eastside YMCA Swim Team family for my first year!  I am really looking forward to re-joining the team that I swam and had so much fun with during my high school career.  With swimming for 15 years competitively, I have been around the water my entire life, and my roots start right here in Erie.  No matter what team I was on, whether it was for St. George School, Lake Erie Summer Swim League, Cathedral Prep, Erie Aquatics, Eastside YMCA Swim Team, or lifeguarding both at the Downtown & Glennwood YMCA’s, I was around the water 24/7, 365 days a year!   I then continued my swimming/water polo career as a DIII student-athlete at Washington & Jefferson College, where I swam for an additional 3 years while attaining my degrees in English & History, graduating in 2016.  Now being back in Erie, it feels great to get the chance to join and coach for a team that had such an impact on my life. With the leadership, dedication, teamwork, and goal-seeking initiatives I was able to pick up during my years at the Eastside Y from so many different coaches, I hope to pass the same qualities along!

Terri Meyers, Stroke Development Instructor

Hi! My name is Terri Meyers and with this being my first year as assistant coach, I would like to tell you a little about myself. I am currently working as a full-time Social Worker and have a supportive husband and three wonderful daughters. I have been involved in competitive swimming for over 10 years, competing for the Belle Vernon Sharks, West Newton Whales, and the Scottsdale YMCA Gators. The 200m and 400m Individual Medleys were my strongest events. In 2005, I graduated from Slippery Rock University on a scholarship in leadership, with a degree in Social Work and Psychology. Last year, I received my Swim Official 1 Certification and as of June, I obtained my lifeguard certification while working part time at the Eastside YMCA. Being a swim coach has always been a dream of mine and I’m so excited to begin my journey with our swimmers. I will be focusing on starts and turns, stroke development, and dryland exercises during this season. For this season, I’m excited to help build the team as a whole, as well as helping our individual swimmers reach and obtain their goals and gain confidence in their abilities. My ultimate goal is helping our swimmers realize that with hard work, dedication, and never losing sight of their dreams, they can accomplish anything they set their mind to.
