Ready. Set. Spike! Hit the net with the folks who invented the game – the Y! Originally called mintonette, volleyball was created by the YMCA. An experimental game, mintonette combined a variation of the badminton net with elements of basketball, the German game of fistball and handball.

Volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964.

This program consists of 10 sessions (2 days a week for 5weeks) focusing on the overall growth of participants looking to develop and fine-tune basic volleyball skills. These skills include serving, passing, setting, blocking, hitting/spiking, and defensive strategies. Come join former volleyball players Claire Mumford from Cambridge Springs High School and Ellah Beachly from General Mclane.
