YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor V6 Courses
This course awards the YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor V6 Certification. After successful completion, instructors will be able to identify components of the YMCA Swim Lessons continuum, demonstrate the behaviors of an effective YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor, maintain an inclusive environment of learning while keeping order in a positive and safe environment, employ swim teaching techniques that breakdown the critical features of a swimmer’s skill progression at any age and stage and demonstrate the swim instructor’s role in an emergency situation.
Prerequisites: Minimum age 16. Hold current BLS, AED, Oxygen and First Aid certifications. Demonstrate 4 of the 6 strokes in good form for 25 yards (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and butterfly), tread water 2 minutes with 2 different kicks. Complete eLearning for Principles of Youth Development, YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor V6 Orientation, and YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor V6 Observe & Communicate on LINK.
This course is free to YMCA of Greater Erie Employees.
YMCA Swim Instructor Prerequisite Swim Test
Demonstrate 4 of the 6 strokes in good form for 25 yards (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and butterfly), tread water 2 minutes with 2 different kicks.
Participants must be at least 16 years of age by the end of the course to earn certification.
Course dates are Saturday, May 31st & Sunday, June 1st 9-6pm.

YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor V6 Certification Course
Interested participants must pass the YMCA Swim Instructor Prerequisite Swim Test prior to registration for this course.
This course includes blended learning assignments for Basic Life Support (CPR), First Aid and Oxygen Administration for those that do not hold current certifications already. The estimated completion time for the blended learning assignments is 5 hours in length. The blended learning will be sent to the participants from the Health & Safety Institute (HSI) on May 16th and must be completed before attending the in person skills verification on May 21st 5-9pm.
Registration for this course is also required with the YMCA of the USA in the Learning & Career Development Center (LCDC). Before registration in the LCDC can be completed, 3 pre-class E-learning assignments must be done and Basic Life Support (CPR), First Aid and Oxygen Administration certifications must also be uploaded to LCDC account.
All course dates must be attended. Make up classes are not available.
