Ready. Set. Spike! Hit the net with the folks who invented the game – the Y! Originally called mintonette, volleyball was created by the YMCA. An experimental game, mintonette combined a variation of the badminton net with elements of basketball, the German game of fistball and handball.

Volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964.

Designed for new players, our Intro to Volleyball program helps kids develop essential skills, improve coordination, and learn the basics of gameplay—all while having fun and staying active. This program will meet twice a week for four weeks to develop skills for serving, setting, blocking, hitting/spiking and defense strategies.
