Ready. Set. Spike! Hit the net with the folks who invented the game – the Y! Originally called mintonette, volleyball was created by the YMCA. An experimental game, mintonette combined a variation of the badminton net with elements of basketball, the German game of fistball and handball.

Volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964.

This program consists of 10 sessions (2 days a week for 5weeks) focusing on the overall growth of participants looking to develop and fine-tune basic volleyball skills. These skills include serving, passing, setting, blocking, hitting/spiking, and defensive strategies. Come join former volleyball players Claire Mumford from Cambridge Springs High School and Ellah Beachly from General Mclane.

Volleyball Clinic: Grade 7-9

Kids going into grades 7, 8, and 9, can brush up on or learn new volleyball skills in this 3-evening clinic taught by former North East High School Varsity Coach Sherry Elchynski. Sherry and her staff will help hone skills and run drills to prepare for the upcoming school year. Appropriate for all skill levels.

$25 for members, $50 for non-members. Register soon! Class limited to 24 participants for scrimmages..
