YMCA of Greater Erie

About Us

Welcome to the YMCA of Greater Erie’s Early Learning University located on the campus of Edinboro University.  Our unique location affords us the convenience of providing early care and preschool learning for the children of Edinboro University students, but residents of the Edinboro community.

In partnership with Edinboro University, Early Learning University provides Early Education majors with hands-on, practical learning under the direct supervision of YMCA certified staff.

Early Learning University is a Keystone Star 4 center, which, much like a hotel rating system, holds centers and staff to the highest standards.  A Keystone Star 4 is the highest rating awarded.

At Early Learning University, we currently care for children as young as 6 weeks through preschool.  We are also a participant in Pennsylvania’s Pre-K Counts program which helps to make early learning an affordable experience for all in the community.  Learn more  about our curriculum and program offerings.

Caring and Well-Trained Staff

Our staff nurtures the healthy, successful growth of every child by emphasizing values such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Annually staff continues their education with courses in child development, first aid, water and fire safety and CPR. All classroom lead teachers hold post secondary education degrees.

Traditional PreK & PreK Extension

School readiness involves more than just children – it involves children, families, schools and communities. The Y works with all four partners to ready kids for Kindergarten by working towards individual accomplishment of 50 skills.  To learn more about these 50 kindergarten ready skills, visit www.erietogether.org.

We offer Traditional PreK, both morning and afternoon sessions, as well as a PreK extension program which offers additional enrichment programming after the traditional preschool hours while mom and dad are still working.

PreK Counts

The Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts pre-kindergarten program, established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, makes quality pre-kindergarten opportunities available to children and families that meet state-required financial guidelines.  Click here for more information.

Summer Day Camp

By choosing Y Summer Day Camp, you’re choosing more than a summer day care service.  Y camps are high-quality, affordable and convenient all summer long.  The Y’s wide menu of summer play and learning activities through camp give kids a chance to have fun while building a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Choose from traditional Day Camp, Kindergarten Readiness Camp or week-long Sports, Dance or Cheer Camps.  Click here for more information on Summer Day Camp.

Financial Assistance

The YMCA is a volunteer-founded, volunteer-led organization with a mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. When you join the Y or participate in a Y program, you’re joining men, women and
children from our community who are committed to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We believe in providing membership and program services to everyone who wants to participate. We are able to do this through the generous donations of our members and friends of the Y through our annual community support program We Build People.

The YMCA accepts CCIS payments, and financial assistanceis available to those who qualify. Discuss program fees and financial assistance with Childcare Director Jill Tucker.
