Whether you’re staying active in group fitness, sharing stories over coffee, or joining in one of our many social events, the Y is a place where you’re known, valued, and celebrated. Our programs are built around your interests and well-being—supporting you in staying strong, connected, and engaged.

Come for the movement, stay for the friendships.

There is something for every interest at the YMCA. Our Annual Senior Fun Day at Camp Sherwin gives AOA members the chance to spend the day taking classes, doing crafts and hearing speakers all on the beautiful shores of Lake Erie.

Our monthly speakers cover everything from the importance of taking care of your eyes to the importance of taking care of your finances.

The Y’s bi-annual wellness assessments give seniors the chance to learn more about their flexibility, mobility and balance – and take home some helpful guidance.

One of the biggest senior health fairs in the area happens every November at our Eastside location. Visit with more than 60 vendors, take a chance on our basket raffle, and chat with friends during a day dedicated just for you.

See what’s coming up — be sure to click both the Eastside and Glenwood locations.

Insurance Information

FREE Y MEMBERSHIPS

Did you know that you may be eligible for a free YMCA membership through your insurance?
The YMCA of Greater Erie partners with the programs below. Take a look and see if you could be eligible for a free membership.

We know insurance benefits can be complex, but we are here to help!
If you have questions, call or stop by any of our YMCA locations. We’re happy to explore your options with you.

SilverSneakers

SilverSneakers remains one of the largest programs providing access to the YMCA! SilverSneakers covers 100% of your YMCA membership dues; your cost is covered entirely by your healthcare or supplement provider.

RenewActive

RenewActive is available to some UnitedHealthcare plans, but not all. Some UnitedHealthcare plans still participate in SilverSneakers and some do not offer a wellness center benefit.

Silver&Fit

The Silver&Fit exercise and healthy aging program is provided by American Specialty Health (ASH). It is designed specifically for older adults. You may get access to Silver&Fit as a Medicare beneficiary through many insurance companies' Medicare Advantage and Supplement Plans.

Active&Fit

Your employer may offer a health plan that covers part of your membership.

HealthPartners

HealthPartners health insurance members enjoy a range of perks, special programs and discounts.

Adding Others to Your Membership

Did you know that you can add others to your membership,
even if your membership comes through insurance?

With Y Your Way every membership circle has a maximum of 6 people. The first slot is filled by the anchor individual at a rate of $38 per month. If you are on an insurance-based membership, this is covered by your program.

However, you can still take advantage of adding others to your membership:

  • Additional adults: $12 per month
  • Children: $10 per month*

*Note that adding children is a flat fee of $10 per month (not $10 per child).

For example: If you are on Silver Sneakers, the out-of-pocket monthly cost for you is $0. If you add on your adult son ($12) and 3 grandchildren, age 20 and younger, ($10), your monthly out-of-pocket expense would be for the add-ons only – in this example, $22 per month. Many of our Active Older Adult members have added their grandchildren to their membership!

Conversely, if your adult children have a Y Your Way membership with an open adult slot in their circle, you can choose to join their circle for only $12 per month. This might be a great option for those who don’t have an insurance-based membership or whose insurance plan requires a member contribution.

To work through your options, use our Membership Calculator tool here. Remember, if your membership is covered by a Health Partner, your $38 monthly base rate is covered

What Members are Saying

Roslyn-Davidson-Riley-ESY

Roslyn Davidson-Riley was an avid walker but her doctor cautioned her against walking on cement. So, with her Silver Sneakers membership, Ross started walking the track at the Eastside YMCA.

“A couple ladies started talking to me on the track,” Ross says. “We started sharing a bit about our lives and became friends.” That’s when they invited Ross to come to class in the small pool.

Ross said she’s met a lot of nice people and really loves her classes.

“It’s a wonderful place to come for your workout,” she says of the YMCA, “but relationships can really be built because of the nice people you meet here.”

With a big smile, Ross sums up her experience: “I’ve met no strangers here.”
