Fishing Derby

June 12th, 2014

Fishing Derby PicCamp Sherwin is having their 10th annual Fishing Derby this year on July 26th! All you have to do is bring you’re fishing pole, and we’ll provide the bait!

Great for kids ages 3-15! The Derby is free and includes a hot dog lunch for all registered kids!

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the Derby starts at 10 a.m.

At this Fishing Derby the kids will learn how to put bait on a hook, cast a line, and reel in a fish, all while having fun! There’s a wide variety of prizes that will be awarded to the kids after lunch.

Since this is a family event, there will also be raffles and a concession stand for the parents.

After, the whole family is welcome to swim in the pool and splash in our new Spray n’ Play Park!

And as a bonus to the kids, there’s even going to be a bounce house to play in! (Weather permitting)

A Roarin’ Splashin’ Family Weekend

2014 Car Cruise.2Come to Camp Sherwin for their annual Community Car Cruiz and Pool Party!

Families are welcome to come down to Camp Sherwin on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. to see all of the old classics!

There will be tons of cars to check out, concessions, raffles, and all of the fun water activities! We have our new Spray n’ Play Park open for all to run around and splash in the water. The pool will also be open for use, including its rock wall.

Like the water, but aren’t interested in getting wet? That’s fine. You can also rent a paddle boat or canoe at a discounted rate!

If you have a nice car that you would like to show case, why not bring it down? It’s only $2 to register your car, and the first 75 cars get a free dash plaque!

This is the perfect day to walk around Camp Sherwin with the family. The kids will learn about history and mechanics when they see these cars, plus there’s fun for everyone of all ages!

 

Camp Sherwin Fishing Derby – Volunteer Opportunity

The YMCA is looking for a few volunteers to help at our Annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, July 26th at Camp Sherwin.

The following volunteer jobs are available:

Registration – Check In Participants
9:30am – 12:00pm

Concessions – Sell Hot Dogs, Chips and Drinks
11:30am – 1:30pm

Fish Measurers – Measure Fish Caught By Participants
9:30am – 12:00pm

Bounce House – Monitor Bounce House
12:00pm – 2:00pm

Chinese Raffle – Sell Tickets
9:30am – 1:30pm

Balloon & Magic Classes

Magic SteveJoin local magician The Real Magic Steve for introduction to magic and balloon creations.  All classes are held at YMCA Camp Sherwin.

Kids will be encouraged to develop their unique performance character which helps to build communication skills, self esteem and confidence.  Steve does this by emphasizing the importance of practice, reading, work ethic, eye/hand/finger coordination, puppetry and creative writing.

Students will be invited to showcase with The Real Magic Steve at his performance at YMCA Camp Sherwin July 18, 7-8:30 p.m.

At the end of the sessions, students will be able to:

  • Perform and/or assist in three or more basic magic sets
  • Create five or more basic balloon sculptures

Magic Classes
Mondays, May 12-June 16 (no class 5/26), 6-7 p.m.

Balloon Classes
Mondays, May 12-June 16 (no class 5/26), 7-8 p.m.

Cost: Y members: $35
Non-members $50

Camp Sherwin Easter Egg Hunt Volunteers Needed

YMCA Camp Sherwin hosts its 4th annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19th from 2pm-4pm and we want you to be part of the Easter Egg Hunt action!

Volunteers are needed for a variety of positions including kitchen help, children’s games and crafts, egg “hiders”, parking, registration and more!

This is a terrific opportunity for families, scout troops, youth needing to complete service hours or anyone that wants to be part of this fun, family event.

Volunteer Positions and Times:

Kitchen:  12pm-6pm – Help prepare and serve concessions.  Set-up and take-down tables and chairs.

50/50 and Chinese Auction:  1:30pm-4:30pm – Oversee Chinese Auction, sell 50/50 tickets and mange money.

Parking:  1pm-3:30pm – Assist with managing parking lot, indicate open and available spaces.

Egg Hunt “Hiders”:  1pm-4:30pm – Assist Y staff with hiding eggs for children.  Indoor and outdoor locations available.

Registration:  1pm-4pm – Assist Y staff with greeting guests and completing registration process.

Children’s Games and Activities:  1:30pm-4:30pm – Assit Y staff with conducting children’s games including sucker pull, face painting, bunny hop, pin the tail, duck pull and ring toss.

Free Classes and Memberships For Veterans

The Downtown Y is excited to announce that beginning Monday, March 24th, we will be offering 3 Free fitness classes each week to Veterans in The Erie Community.  Classes will include:

YOGA – Mondays at 6:30pm

TAI CHI - Wednesdays at 6:30pm

LOW IMPACT CARDIO -  Mondays at 9:30am

No registration is required for these classes and all equipment will be provided.

The Downtown Y will also be accepting applications for FREE One Month Adult Memberships for Veterans. There will be 24 memberships available each month and will be awarded on a first come first serve basis.  Veterans must currently be receiving services through The VA
or affiliates and present this flyer upon applying.

FREE Veterans and Family Day at Camp Sherwin – Sunday, June 29th – 12pm-4pm – Get your family ready for some swimming, fishing, hiking, playground fun and much more!

Make sure to check out our brand new Spray and Play Park and visit our Car Cruise from 12pm-4pm.

Apple Fest 2013

APPLEApples aren’t the only thing with variety and spice!  We’re certain you’ll find a wide variety of activities for the whole family at YMCA Camp Sherwin’s Apple Fest on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.  Celebrate apples and fall with family themed activities for all during the daylight hours.  Come back or stay later for the twilight hour and rock with “The Groove” and take your changes on our Haunted Trail.  Daylight admission: FREE Twilight admission: By donation

Egg Hunt Volunteer Opportunities

Sink Your Teeth into Juicy Family Fun

September 6th, 2012

You’ll have bushels of family fun at our 2nd annual Apple Fest on Saturday, Oct. 20 beginning at 10 a.m.!  Themed events and activities for all ages including a “race” around camp, make your own scarecrow station, a haunted trail walk, horse-drawn wagon rides, delicious homemade apple treats,K-9 dog unit, small games of chance, facepainting, magician and bounce house for the kids, music, , Chinese Auction, BINGO and more! Wait one more weekend to put your car in storage – Car Cruise all makes and models at Apple Fest.

Admission to the Apple Fest is free and open to the public.  Activities are held throughout the day.  Rain or shine. Parking by donation. First 100 cars receive a bag of goodies.

Special Community Pancake Breakfast ($$) from 8 -10 a.m. with the Erie Bayhawks Team Mascot Clutchand Community Lunch ($$) from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with Erie Seawolves Team Mascot C-Wolf.
